Notes on the text
- Unless otherwise indicated, the wind is blowing from the top of the diagram.
- The phrase ‘a downwind course’ has been replaced by ‘a course that is more
than ninety degrees from the true wind’ in the rulebook (see rule C7.2(a)(2)).
The Call Book has been changed to use this phrase.
- Where appropriate, the phrase ‘windward leg’ has been replaced with the
phrase ‘leg of the course to a windward mark’ and ‘run’ or ‘downwind leg’
has been replaced with ‘the leg of the course to a leeward mark’ (see rule
C7.2(a)).
- Any call involving contact will also involve rule 14. However, as explained
in the General Principles for Umpire Decisions, rule 14 has no impact on the
immediate umpire decision and is therefore not addressed in each separate
call.
