Preface
I thank the Match Racing Rules Working Party and those who have helped get this
updated version of the Call Book for Match Racing ready in time for the
implementation of the 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing. While no longer with us,
the Working Party continues to acknowledge the work that Marianne Middelthon
has done in regards to the Call Book for Match Racing. Finally, thanks to the many
sailors and umpires who have commented and made suggestions for improvement
to the book. We welcome future comments for improvement.
Calls are entered into different sections of this book based on where they are most
likely to happen.
Readers will find the biggest changes from the 2017-2020 version of the Call Book
in calls clarifying the application of the exoneration rules. Some calls have been
changed, including Call G5 being deleted and we have renumbered Call G4 as G1
and Call G7 as G3.
All diagrams are limited to 2-dimensional snapshots of each incident. They cannot
show the wind strength, the waves, the heel and speed of boats and all the many
other things that contribute to a real-life scenario. They should therefore not be used
too literally, but rather as a tool to help recognise quickly and clearly the situation
being addressed.
At the back of the book there is an index of the rules listed in the call titles.
The Match Racing Rules Working Party will make recommendations on submitted
calls and approved rapid response calls to the Racing Rules Committee in time for
the annual meeting each year.
It is our intention to have available, on line, an up to date Call Book at the beginning
of each year after the World Sailing Annual Conference to include any new calls
approved by the Racing Rules Committee. These calls will be added into the relevant
sections.
